Modeling Engineer

  • Hybrid
    • Delft, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands
  • €0 - €90,000 per year
  • FPGA Verification

What will you do?

Are you driven to define the benchmark for high-performance hardware in the world of quantum computing?

At Qblox, we're accelerating the worldwide race to build scalable quantum computers, providing the world's best quantum control stacks. We're not just building hardware; we're building the future.

Where you come in:

Qblox builds the advanced control and readout hardware that powers quantum computers. Our Verification & Modeling team ensures that every data path and protocol across our systems behaves precisely as specified—from RF front-ends and digital signal chains to complex control-plane protocols.

As our Modeling Engineer, you will sit right at the intersection of system architecture, digital design, and verification. You will build system-level models, simulators, and a robust C++ reference model stack that acts as the golden model across all functional verification environments. Your work will directly define what "correct behavior" means for teams developing and verifying RTL, firmware, and system-level test benches.

What you'll do:

  • Architect Golden Models: Design and build cycle-accurate and bit-accurate C++ reference model stacks that serve as the golden reference across block, subsystem, and full-system levels.

  • Model Systems & Protocols: Develop system-level behavioral models of data paths (DAC/ADC signal chains, DSP pipelines, sequencer logic) and inter-module protocols (timing, synchronization, and control/readout messaging).

  • Bridge Design & Verification: Partner closely with verification engineers to integrate reference models into UVM/SystemVerilog or Python-based test benches as predictors, scoreboards, or standalone checkers.

  • Translate & Align: Collaborate with system architects and hardware/firmware designers to translate complex signal-processing algorithms and protocol state machines into precise, testable models.

  • Maintain Fidelity: Track and maintain bit-true correspondence between the golden model and RTL/firmware implementations, rapidly resolving discrepancies as hardware evolves.

  • Scale Infrastructure: Build and extend standalone simulation infrastructure, co-simulation harnesses, and model-vs-RTL comparison flows to support design exploration and verification sign-off.

  • Set the Standard: Establish and document modeling methodologies, coding standards, and reuse strategies to ensure our modeling stack scales seamlessly across product lines.

Why you'll love it:

  • Ignite Your Drive: Work in the deep-tech frontier of quantum computing, solving complex engineering puzzles that haven't been tackled before.

  • Define the Standard: You'll be one of the few who defines what "correct" means for our hardware—every chip, module, and verification suite will be measured against your work.

  • Collaborate with Brilliance: Partner daily with world-class physicists, architects, RTL designers, and verification engineers in an open, high-performance culture.

  • Unleash Potential: Enjoy significant ownership over our modeling architecture, with ample space to innovate, grow, and shape critical technology from the ground up.

Job requirements

Enough about us, what about you?

To truly excel and lead the charge in this role, we envision you'll bring the following background and expertise:

The Non-Negotiables:

  • Educational Background: A degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Modern C++ Mastery: Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++11/14/17), with demonstrated experience architecting modular, reusable, and thoroughly testable model libraries.

  • DSP & Protocol Expertise: A solid understanding of digital signal processing concepts (filtering, mixing, sampling, fixed-point and quantization effects) and/or digital communication protocols.

  • Hardware Modeling Experience: Proven experience developing behavioral, functional, or architectural models of hardware systems.

  • Verification Fluency: Familiarity with functional verification methodologies (such as UVM/SystemVerilog) and integrating golden models into test environments.

  • Software Engineering Fundamentals: Solid best practices in version control (Git), build systems, unit testing, and structured code reviews.

  • Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical discussions across architecture, RTL, firmware, and verification teams.

Other things that will help you really enjoy the role:

  • Experience with quantum control/readout hardware, RF/analog signal chains, or high-end instrumentation.

  • Scripting and modeling skills in Python (e.g., NumPy bit-true models, cocotb, or pyuvm).

  • Ability to read and reason about RTL designs (SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL).

  • Hands-on experience with co-simulation frameworks (SystemC, DPI-C, Verilator, or QEMU).

  • Familiarity with real-time embedded systems, packet-based control protocols, or CI workflows for hardware verification.
