Digital Team Lead (FPGA / ASIC)
- Hybrid

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."
Maybe, Albert Einstein, or maybe Digital Design is just really complicated. Our FPGA/ASIC Team needs a Lead to help us scale.
What will you do?
Qblox is a deep tech scale-up accelerating the race toward scalable quantum computers. We develop the world’s most advanced quantum control stacks—technology used by R&D teams across the globe to push the boundaries of physics and computing. Our products combine precision electronics, FPGA systems, and proprietary sequence processors to control thousands of qubits with nanosecond accuracy.
Digital Team Lead
The current digital department is responsible for the FPGA design and consists of 14 engineers divided into two teams; Digital design and the Verification & Validation. In the coming years, we aim to significantly grow the department to focus on the development of new products.
Our control stacks combine unrivaled noise and drift performance, a low-latency arbitrary control flow and scalability up to 1000s of qubits. The control stack generates the analog pulses (DC to 18 GHz) needed for the control and readout of qubits. These analog signals are generated from 1000s of parallel channels and driven by our proprietary sequence processor technology. Our products are used by R&D teams to accelerate the development of operational quantum computers and quantum networks. The technology we are developing is compatible with a broad range of qubit technologies (superconducting, spin, NV-centres, cold atoms).
To control so many qubits, we developed a modular system that can be synchronized. This system is packed with high-end FPGAs that are synchronized with nanosecond precision, high-speed digital interfaces to multi-gigasample dataconverters and ultra low-noise and low drift analog (RF) circuits. The FPGAs contain among other things our proprietary sequence processors that generate the pulses to control the quantum hardware.
Your Mission
As Team Lead Digital Design you lead, grow and empower the digital design team to deliver world-class FPGA and digital logic solutions. You will mentor, train and provide technical expertise to colleagues and champion professional growth and development of your team members. You will enable your team to design scalable, maintainable, and high-quality systems that meet Qblox’s ambitious goals.
You will work closely with the Verification & Validation Lead, the Program Managers, and the Head of Digital to align priorities, manage resources, and continuously improve the Qblox way of working. You will ensure that the team’s design work is efficient, traceable, and compliant with product and process requirements, while also creating an engaging environment that promotes learning, collaboration, and innovation.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in FPGA/ASIC design, excellent leadership skills, and ability to collaborate with multi-functional teams.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Team Leadership & People Development
Lead and mentor a team of digital design engineers, providing technical direction and guidance.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture aligned with Qblox’s values.
Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support individual career development.
Drive recruitment, onboarding, and training as the team continues to expand.
Technical Direction & Quality
Oversee digital design activities, ensuring alignment with system architecture and product requirements.
Define and maintain best practices for FPGA/ASIC development, design verification, and documentation.
Track technical debt, plan improvements, and ensure design quality through code reviews and design reviews.
Stay current with digital design methodologies, EDA tools, and FPGA technology to enhance team performance.
Process & Collaboration
Continuously drive process and infrastructure improvements to enhance efficiency and traceability.
Collaborate with the Verification & Validation Lead to ensure comprehensive test coverage and reliable releases.
Coordinate with Program Managers and Technical Managers to align team planning, priorities, and resources.
Communicate progress, risks, and needs to stakeholders and senior leadership transparently.
Strategic Contribution
Contribute to defining and refining the roadmap for the Digital Design Team’s way of working.
Ensure the right environment, tools, and processes are in place for the team to succeed.
Represent the digital design team internally and externally, promoting technical excellence and innovation.
Job requirements
Enough about us, what about you?
In order to really enjoy and succeed in this role, we imagine that you will have:
7+ years of experience in FPGA/ASIC design, preferably in a high-tech, R&D-driven industry (e.g., semiconductors, radar, high-speed electronics).
Proven experience as a Team Lead or Technical Lead in digital design.
Solid background in VHDL/Verilog, FPGA architectures, and SoC design principles.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills — able to inspire and empower engineers.
Skilled in prioritization, resource allocation, and balancing technical and organizational goals.
Familiarity with Agile development and continuous improvement practices.
Experience in scaling teams and processes in a startup or scale-up environment is a strong plus.
